Baby Gift Shops in San Francisco: Useful Places to Start

Colorful Bunch clothing on a shop rack in a bold purple-and-yellow Paper halftone treatment.

“What size would be useful?” is a good question to ask before buying a baby gift. It leaves plenty of room for choosing something you love, while saving you from adding a fifth outfit in the size the baby is just about to outgrow. The same goes for books, feeding things and the bigger nursery purchases: a little information from the parents can make the gift feel more personal.

There are a few different kinds of shops in this San Francisco guide. We'll start with ours, where everyday clothing and books are a natural place to look, then share some other places for registry gifts, nursery pieces and a small surprise for an older sibling.

Colorful Bunch: a little color for the everyday drawer

Our studio doubles as our shop at 700 Lombard Street in North Beach. We make clothes and carry books, toys and useful things from other makers, so you can put a gift together from a few parts of the shop if that feels right.

For baby clothes, our organic cotton bodysuits are a place to start. The Washed Black Short-Sleeve Bodysuit has an expandable collar and three snaps at the bottom, in a 100% organic cotton baby rib. We like the washed black with a colorful pair of pants; it gives you room to play with the rest of the outfit.

Once you know which size would help the family, compare it with the size chart. Age labels are a starting point, and 0–3 months isn't the same as a separate newborn size. It's worth leaving room through the body so the snaps meet comfortably.

A book makes a lovely companion to clothes. There are plenty of animals behaving very strangely in the Sandra Boynton collection, including the moose in striped pajamas in Pajama Time!. We carry that title in an oversized lap edition, a larger board-book format for a grown-up to hold while reading together. The size is part of the choice, especially if you're imagining a book tucked into a small changing bag.

Natural Resources: a gift connected to new-parent life

Natural Resources is a nonprofit supporting families from pregnancy through early childhood. Alongside its classes and community work, its shop and registry include clothing, feeding items, books and gifts for babies and parents.

If the parents have made a registry there, we'd begin with what they've chosen. They may have put a lot of thought into a particular item, or simply know what would make the next few months easier. Following their lead can be a very thoughtful way to give.

Aldea Home & Baby: nursery pieces and group gifts

Aldea Home & Baby, at 890 Valencia Street, carries nursery furniture and everyday baby essentials. It's a place to consider for a larger purchase, perhaps something a few friends or relatives are giving together.

With furniture or a specific piece of gear, we'd talk through the exact model, the space it needs and the delivery arrangements before ordering. There can still be pleasure in giving something the parents know is coming, especially when it's the thing they were hoping for.

Tantrum: something playful, including for a sibling

Tantrum, at 248 Clement Street, has toys, books, art supplies and gift details with a playful visual character. It offers another direction for a book or a small present chosen for an older sibling.

Give that sibling gift its own thought. What are they interested in right now? Check the age guidance on toys and accessories, and keep anything intended for an older child separate from the baby's things.

Before planning a trip to Sprout

Sprout appeared in an earlier version of our guide. As of our October 2026 check, its website marks both the San Francisco and Mill Valley stores closed. Older location information may still turn up in a search, so we wouldn't plan an in-person stop based on those pages.

When the baby already has plenty

A gift for a parent is worth considering, too. Our shop gift guide includes things for grown-ups and home, and a book can be a good option when the clothing drawer is full.

Whatever you choose, include the size and care information and a gift receipt when you can. That gives the family some room to make the gift work for them. If you'd like to choose something at our shop, come by; we'd be happy to help you think it through.
