How to wash Colorful Bunch cotton kids jeans

Cotton jeans waistband and sewn-in Colorful Bunch label; a bold Paper halftone photo treatment

Before these jeans go into the wash, have a look in the pockets. The lemon pockets are a fairly inviting place to put a small treasure, and a crayon or folded piece of paper is much easier to deal with while it's still dry.

After that, the routine is simple: wash our Play Jeans by hand or on a delicate cycle in cool water with mild soap, then lay them flat to dry. Skip bleach. A low iron is fine if you need it. The flat-drying part is the one to remember when a whole mixed load is about to move into the dryer.

A quick look before washing

Empty both pockets and brush away loose dry dirt. With the jeans laid out, you can also see how the knees, seams and hems are doing. If a stitch has come loose or a knee needs attention, it's a good time to notice, before the pair is needed for getting out the door.

The Lemon Patch Pocket Play Jean combines 13.75-ounce cotton denim with printed pockets and an elastic waistband. Keep those details in mind if you're treating a mark. Avoid hard scrubbing across the pocket design, and make sure any laundry product you use is suitable for the fabric and decoration.

For a persistent mark, you can tell us where it is and what you've already tried. It's more helpful to talk about that particular pair than to keep adding stronger treatments and hope one works.

Cool water, mild soap, a gentle cycle

Use a delicate machine wash, or wash by hand in cool water. If you're hand washing, work gently and rinse the soap away. The denim is cotton, but that doesn't make a hot cotton cycle the right choice for the finished jeans.

You don't need to add a rough break-in treatment to the soft-washed lemon pair. Keeping the normal care straightforward also makes it easier to notice how the garment is doing, without changing several things at once.

The Vintage Fabric Pocket Play Jean brings older fabrics into a new denim garment. Keep any extra care information that comes with your particular pocket fabric. That little scrap of information is worth keeping beside the size notes.

Give them a place to dry flat

Arrange the legs and pockets in their usual shape and leave enough room for the jeans to dry fully. The waistband and pocket areas are thicker, so include those when you check whether the pair is ready to put away.

If more than one person does the laundry, a note by the machine can be useful: these are the jeans that get set aside before the dryer. It doesn't need to become a complicated household system. You just want the care instruction to travel with the clothes.

Use a low iron if needed once you're at that stage. And if you're comparing measurements from one wash to another, wait until the jeans are dry, then use the same flat waist and inseam measurements each time. Our measuring guide walks through that.

When the jeans are ready for another child, pass along a photo of the care label too. The next person gets the small, useful details with the pair: cool gentle washing, flat drying, and anything specific to the pockets. Then the jeans can get back to being clothes someone wears.
