There is something appealing about a very colorful pair of house slippers. They're a small thing to choose for yourself, and you get to see them while doing quite ordinary things at home. With Mokuyobi's Grid Slippers, we'd begin with the fit, then enjoy the print.
These are adult slippers. The Grid pair is a padded, open-back slide with a cotton upper and interior and a coated-nylon sole. The cotton fabric is made in France; the slippers are made in Los Angeles.
The two size options
Mokuyobi describes S/M as fitting approximately women's shoe sizes 6–9, and L/XL as fitting approximately men's shoe sizes 9–11. Keep the word “approximately” in mind. Those are useful starting ranges, but the width of a foot and the way someone likes a slide to sit still matter.
If you're near an edge of a range, compare your foot and a slipper you already like with the maker's guidance. Ask about the actual pair if length or width is the deciding question. We'd rather help with that than have you choose from a shoe-size number that isn't telling you enough.
Look at where the foot rests
An open-back slipper feels different from a fully enclosed shoe. Notice the opening over the foot, the space beneath the heel and the shape of the sole. Think about whether you want to wear socks with it, too.
A familiar slipper is a useful reference, especially one whose fit you enjoy. When trying the Grid pair on, use a suitable indoor surface and see whether your foot sits comfortably on the sole. They are house slippers, made for that role.
For another style or a gift
We also have a Mokuyobi Slippers listing with its own colors and sizes. Look at that particular style's information before carrying over the Grid pair's fabric or construction details.
If you're giving slippers, ask the recipient's usual shoe size and whether they like an open back. That second question is easy to overlook when a print has caught your eye. Keep the size and care information with the present so they don't have to track it down later.
Cold wash, then time to air dry
The Grid Slippers call for machine washing cold and air drying. Allow enough time for the padded areas to dry fully; this isn't a hot-dryer routine. Check the pair when dry and keep it somewhere it can air between uses.
For a shoes-off visit, ask the host what they prefer. If you're bringing your own slippers, a separate clean bag keeps them easy to find on arrival. There is no need to turn the visit into an entirely new outfit.
If you are also choosing an adult layer for home and elsewhere, our unisex pullover guide works through the fit. Both choices are easier when you begin with a shape you already enjoy wearing.
