Wash, lotion or bath bombs: understanding family bath products

Wiley Body Bubble pump bottle beside its carton, with a bold halftone treatment

Blueberry, strawberry and lemon make the bath shelf sound a bit like the fruit bowl. With the products themselves, though, it's useful to begin with what goes where: a wash for cleansing, lotion for a separate step, or bath bombs to add to the water.

We carry Wiley Body and Dabble & Dollop in these different formats. If you're buying for another household, asking what they already use is a good place to begin. Families can have quite particular preferences about the products in their bathroom.

One wash for three jobs

Wiley Baby Body Bubble is a shampoo, body wash and bubble bath in an 8.5 fluid ounce pump bottle. Its scent is grapefruit and juniper berry, and the formula includes aloe, calendula and ginger.

For someone who likes keeping fewer cleansing bottles around, that three-in-one format is the feature to notice. The pump is another practical part of choosing the package, especially if you're comparing it with a bottle the family already uses.

Lotion is a separate choice

Wiley Baby Everything Lotion also comes in an 8.5 fluid ounce size, with green tea, calendula and shea in its formula. It shares the grapefruit-and-juniper scent with the wash.

You can pair them as two separately sold items, or choose the one the family has asked for. The shared scent connects the two bottles, while the choice can stay with the part of the routine they need.

For a very young child, pay attention to the package's age and use instructions rather than relying on “Baby” in the name. A requested product is especially helpful here because it takes the guesswork out of someone else's established routine.

Fruit-scented washes from Dabble & Dollop

Blueberry Shampoo & Wash, Strawberry Shampoo & Body Wash and Lemon Shampoo & Body Wash come in 10 ounce bottles. That gives you berry and citrus directions to compare within a similar package size.

Start with a scent the household enjoys. Even a change from one fruit scent to another can matter to someone who has a favorite. If this is a gift, there's nothing wrong with asking which one they'd choose.

What's in the bath-bomb box?

The Original Fruit Scents set has twelve one-inch bath bombs: three each of Strawberry, Tangerine, Honeydew and Vanilla. They are individually wrapped. The count tells you what's in the package; the directions tell you how many to use.

Merry Mixables has six small bath bombs in alternating Strawberry and Vanilla scents, with a seasonal presentation. It's a different assortment from the twelve-piece box, so choose around the actual contents.

These fruit names describe bath products, not food. Keep the original packaging with the gift so the adult has the ingredients, age information and directions. We wouldn't divide the set into unmarked pieces for separate presents.

For the rest of the bathroom shelf

Our Davids toothpaste guide compares those formula names and flavors, while the Sonrei Kids Zinq guide walks through that sunscreen's label. For an adult body-care gift, the oil, soak and steamer guide takes another direction.

And if you decide you'd rather give something that doesn't depend on a bathroom routine, the gift guide has books, making materials and plenty of other things to explore.
